Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! (Ps 107:8 KJV)
What would happen to us if continual praise and heartfelt thanksgiving became a daily practice? How much more impact would we have if negative talk and complaining were replaced with sweet utterances of fruit-filled words to build up one another and to offer genuine adoration to the Lord? One morning, as I spent time in prayer, the Lord gave me a picture of how His Body must establish consistent attitudes of praise and thanksgiving, so that we can overcome every work of the enemy.
In Psalm 107, the psalmist reveals the power in prayer and thanksgiving. Four times, he instructs, pleads, encourages and exhorts God’s people to recognize and celebrate God’s goodness by offering perpetual praise and thanksgiving. The message is clear! No matter what we are facing, the severity of our situation or circumstance, we should praise and thank the Lord because “HE IS GOOD”! This perfect and unchanging goodness of the Lord is beyond comprehension. When we realize that we don’t deserve His goodness or merit His favor, we become grateful for all the Lord has done for us.
As a show of His pleasure for those who will praise Him, the Lord inhabits in the very praises of his people, and makes us certain of his nearness. God’s Spirit rests in our midst and produces joy in our hearts that creates the kind of strength that causes the realization that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
